Why Fortytwo?

James has followed Fortytwo for several years. “The incredibly talented people, the technology and security focus, and the culture of ownership all made me want to work with the team,” he says. For him, Fortytwo represents a place where expertise, accountability, and modern engineering practices meet. Joining at this stage of the company’s journey gives him the opportunity to contribute to something that is already strong, while helping shape what comes next.

What James Brings

James brings a mix of hands-on technical work and leadership experience, all built around continuous improvement. Clarity, transparency, and trust sit at the heart of how he operates. His background covers agile delivery and enablement, platform engineering, customer success, and automation, always with a focus on delivering real value rather than activity for its own sake.

He enables teams to work iteratively, adopt modern tooling and thinking, and turn MVPs into repeatable, reliable products. His approach is centred on learning, enablement, metrics that matter, and outcomes that create genuine customer value.

Where He Has Been

With more than 20 years in IT, James has worked across small, medium, and large enterprise environments. His experience spans fast-scaling SaaS businesses, public cloud consultancy, and product-focused companies.

Over the years he has taken on roles in customer support, product management, presales, customer success, service development, managed services, and platform engineering. This breadth has given him a clear view of how technology, people, and process fit together, and—crucially—how organisations can scale in a sustainable way.

Outside of work, you will often find him behind a camera capturing photos or video, at the gym, or spending time with his family. That mix of structure, creativity, and balance also shows in how he approaches his work.

What Sets Him Apart

James describes his strength as the ability to “bring structure into focus while keeping creativity in frame.” He is just as comfortable designing an onboarding process as he is editing photos with a coffee in hand before a Monday stand-up.

He moves easily between high-level structure and practical detail, which makes him effective in environments where both discipline and flexibility are needed.

One buzzword he’d erase

If James could remove one buzzword from the IT vocabulary, it would be “digital transformation.” “It’s used so much that it has lost all meaning,” he says.

In his view, the term often hides real issues like organisational inertia, unclear ownership, or a lack of focus on actual outcomes. He prefers concepts like “continuous evolution” or “continuous iteration,” where change is measurable, incremental, and built into how teams work every day.

“Let’s think more continuously,” he says, “not as a one-time project or a catchy slogan.”

We are really happy to have James on board. His experience, mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement align closely with Fortytwo’s way of delivering technology: clear, competent, and focused on real outcomes.
